Scandic Norway and Helt Med

HELT MED

HELT MED includes people with intellectual disabilities in the workforce. Scandic offers positions at several hotels in Norway.

HELT MED works to include people with intellectual disabilities in the regular workforce. Scandic collaborates with HELT MED by offering positions at several of our hotels in Norway. When we look for new employees, we seek individuals who can make guests feel welcome and are committed to doing a good job.

Who can apply for a job?

HELT MED jobs are for people with intellectual disabilities who receive disability benefits. If you meet these criteria, you can apply for a HELT MED job at one of our hotels.

Requirements, you must:

  • be motivated to work at a hotel
  • be punctual
  • be engaged
  • be good at listening
  • be good at maintaining order
  • have good personal hygiene

Internship period

Before final employment, you will have a four-week internship period. During this period, you will find out if you can enjoy working with us at Scandic. You and your supervisor will determine if the job suits you and what tasks you can handle. You will also decide how many hours per week you will work. You will receive an honorarium from HELT MED for the entire internship period.

Follow-up and mentorship program

You will have a contact person at the hotel, whom we call your mentor. The mentor will ensure that you are comfortable at work, learn the necessary skills for the job, and address any daily concerns you may have. Additionally, HELT MED will follow up with you and your employer through meetings and phone calls. HELT MED will always be available for contact if there are any specific challenges at work.

Examples of tasks

  • Kitchen: Simple tasks and daily routines such as preparing breakfast and lunch.
  • Conference Department: Setting up chairs and tables, clearing coffee cups and glasses during breaks.
  • Restaurant Department: Cleaning, washing, spraying, and general tasks.
  • Technical Department: Cleaning, washing, spraying, and general tasks.
  • You can apply to the department(s) you prefer.

Salary

Central actors and labor organizations have established the salary determination for HELT MED contracts. You will receive an hourly wage that is 20% of the prevailing tariff. Additionally, you will receive full disability benefits. If you have industry experience or certification, this should be reflected in the contract, registered, and the tariff rate followed as for other employees.

HELT MED at Scandic:

Currently, 11 Scandic hotels employ 30 people from HELT MED. The employees are represented in Oslo, Bergen, Sunnfjord/Førde, Stavanger, Bodø, and Tromsø.

Scandic Academy makes learning accessible for everyone, via digital content, classroom trainings and toolkits for team exercises and knowledge sharing.
