Our food philosophy

At Scandic we serve a breakfast buffet with vegan, vegetarian and allergy-friendly products. The initiative is based on feedback we received from guests who have certain types of allergies, intolerances or who are vegans. Most of our hotels offer a separate station and fridge with allergy-friendly options.

We offer allergy-friendly local products in all our six countries. The offering and the variety of the suppliers can vary on each market e.g certified products by Debio in Norway and products from Oatly, Risenta, Schär and Planti in Sweden. Products such as oat-based beverages and yoghurt, soy yoghurt and rice beverages, gluten-free muesli and bread, dried fruits and berries, vegan cheese.

You are welcome to ask our hotel staff in our restaurants and they are happy to answer your questions.

By using the app Too Good To Go (Denmark, Norway, Sweden) and ResQ in Finland, we work to reduce the food waste as much as possible. For half price or less, you can buy hotel breakfasts, lunches, conference snacks or dinners that are left over from the day's service at our hotels throughout Sweden, Denmark, Norway and Finland.

When you drink a cup of Fairtrade coffee at Scandic, you contribute to a better life for the farmer and his family.

Every cup of coffee we serve in Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland and Germany is organic, and either Fairtrade or UTZ certified. Fairtrade and UTZ-certified coffee guarantees that the coffee has been grown with social and environmental responsibility, and the coffee can always be traced to a country and its farmers.

Fairtrade is an ethical and social label. The farmers receive a fair wage and can, for example, afford to send their children to school. We serve more than 25 million cups of certified coffee at our hotels each year. Have a cup of coffe with us and you contribute to a better world!

At Scandic we want all families to feel great! For the kids to be able to play and have fun, we serve food they like. All our hotels offer something for the little ones and during summer and holidays most of our hotels offer a special kids' menu.

At all our Scandic Hotels we offer kids dishes or a possibility to choose from our ordinary menu to 50% off (half portion). All year round! To be sure of what the options are at your hotel, please check your hotel's information about kids.

Kids in Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Finland

The menu and the six dishes was created based upon interviews with parents and children. The selected dishes are kids "favourites" and are organic according to parents wish to offer their children a healthy meal.

Even though all our hotels are great for families there are some hotels that are more focused on kids and offer the kids' menu during the summer. Read more about what these family friendly hotels offer and what's included for kids.

When you stay with us you drink the best water available. Sustainable water from our very own taps. Filtered and carbonated if you like. Served in jugs made of recycled glass.

Pure water without waste

We do a lot to conserve and avoid the unnecessary contamination of water:

• Low-flow toilets, special shower heads and sinks with sensors on the taps
• Automatic dispensing of cleaning chemicals so as to never use a single drop unnecessarily
• 90% of our cleaning, dish washing and washing chemicals are ecolabelled
• Completely chemical-free cleaning methods using steam and microfibre cloths
• Efficient washing machines and dishwashers. For example, many of our dishwashers reuse the last rinse water to pre-rinse the next wash

We measure our water consumption

Since 1996, we have measured water consumption at all our hotels, once a month. When we started measuring, each guest used 240 litres of water per day. Today, that figure is down below 200 litres per day, lower than required for us to label our hotels with Nordic Ecolabel.

Smart drinking water without transportation

We used to transport almost 4 million bottles of water to our hotels. Every year! Of course this is unsustainable. Therefore, we now invest in the best water available. Our own water from taps that cool, carbonate and filter so that the valuable minerals and salts remain. This reduces fossil carbon-dioxide emissions by 160 tonnes per year, based on our previous sales.
